Teddy Kaspersen (he/him) as Flugnor the Grugrank, a reluctant kobold thrust into adventure because, without an adventure, there would be no show! Teddy is a recent graduate of Dundee & Angus College and an avid Dungeons & Dragons player, making him especially suited to this fantastical journey. As a performer he focuses on the mundanity in life and how it can be made into something more through each character. He is ecstatic to make mischief with the kobold pack and is spending his free time talking nonsense and crawling around to prepare.

Isabella Greathouse (she/her) reprises the role she originated: Marvish Blatt. Marvish is the pack member most excited to explore the unknown, a quality which is not naturally found in most (living) kobolds. A graduate of Long Island University Post, Isabella returns to the world of kobolds with the same joyful chaos that helped earn the production its award-winning status in New York. In the meantime, she’s been in films with Minjoy Pictures (Life Advice, Ettequite) and musicals with Wild Gem Theatre Co (Godspell). When she’s not performing, she’s teaching art to children or throwing axes, not at the same time. Kobold Strong!

Robbie Smith as Corey, the youngest and sweetest kobold, whose brightest idea for opening a magically-locked door is politely asking it to open. Robbie is also a graduate of Dundee & Angus College where he worked with all sorts of artists and performance mediums from contemporary plays to movement and dance. He also enjoys the nerdy aspect of life, he loves a bit of dice rolling and role playing here and there. Robbie’s most recent productions include Sex and Violence and The Full Monty.

Sevrin Willinder as Trindleshanks Jr., a sage who has survived this long thanks to a seemingly-bottomless bag of tools taken from kobolds who haven’t survived this long. Sevrin is an actor and clown from Massachusetts. After training with “the infamous Philippe Gaulier”, he moved to New York City to co-found Devon Loves ME! Productions. His solo show, Time Travel Postman, will also play at Gilded Balloon Patter House from 5-31 August. He is thrilled to be a part of the Kobold show, and creating with such wonderful freaks!

Esme Wells as Peranthany Boneblood, the strongest of the kobolds, with a penchant for pummeling her enemies into mulch and asking questions later. Rounding out the cast’s trio of Dundee & Angus College graduates, Esme Wells is a theatre artist with a joyous love for all things silly and whimsical. From Shakespeare to devising, they have a curiosity for theatrics. After graduating, they will go on to complete their masters in acting and take their collection of artistic skills out into the world: From creating puppets from scratch inspired by Jim Henson but with their own imaginative flair, To directing their own piece – a mix of genres combining the music and nostalgia of Grease with the terror of your favourite vampiric horror tales. They are ready to take their knowledge of Dungeons and Dragons and drama to become a memorable, loveable kobold and help amplify the passion of this show!

What IS A kobold?

Kobolds have a long and storied history in many different cultures. the word itself comes from the germanic name for a household spirit. In the gaming world, Kobolds appeared alongside goblins, trolls, and orcs in the 1971 Tabletop roleplaying game Chainmail, and were first featured in the Dungeons & Dragons playtest of 1972. They were described as “hairless humanoids with small horns” and “aggressive, tribal creatures living in dark forests or subterranean settings”.

Over the decades, the image of the kobold has shifted and grown, but they are most often viewed as sidekicks at best, canon fodder at worst, and mild annoyances somewhere in the middle. The kobolds you will meet today are tired of this reputation. They are stepping into the limelight and making a name for themselves as true protagonists.

In this unique form of clowning, we combine physical comedy with ensemble-driven storytelling to elevate the once-downtrodden kobold. each kobold has their own strengths and weaknesses, and every story has its own lesson. And at the heart of every message is the reminder that every kobold knows from their “pack tactic” trait: Kobolds are together strong.
